Chapter 10 - The Golden HorizonTwo years later.

On a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon, the sound of laughter echoed across the backyard of our new home in the coastal hills.
We had sold the old suburban house with its dark memories and built a beautiful, light-filled home surrounded by blooming wildflower gardens, ancient oak trees, and a clear view of the rolling ocean.
My father’s silver photo frame sat proudly on the fireplace mantel inside, restored to its rightful place of honor.
I sat on a wooden bench in the garden, watching our fourteen-month-old daughter, Lily, take her first clumsy steps across the soft green grass. Mara sat beside her, gently guiding her with steady, loving hands.
“Look at her go, Ethan!” Mara laughed, her face glowing with absolute, unburdened happiness.
Lily giggled wildly, tumbling safely into my arms as I caught her, lifting her high into the air as she squealed with delight.
“She has her mother’s fierce spirit,” I smiled, kissing Lily’s chubby cheek before setting her softly back down on the blanket.
Mara leaned her head against my shoulder, wrapping her arms around my waist as we watched our daughter play with a bright yellow butterfly fluttering through the flowers.
The tragedy of the past—the midnight raid, the shattered glass, the police tape, and the bitter family betrayals—felt like a distant, fading bad dream. Out of the ruins of a corrupt dynasty, we had built a true family founded on unbreakable trust, deep love, and absolute honesty.
Mara looked up at me, her brown eyes filled with peace.
“We made it, Ethan,” she whispered softly.
“We made it, my love,” I answered, wrapping my arms tightly around her and our daughter as the golden afternoon sun bathed our home in warmth.
