Chapter 10 - The Eternal HavenThree years after the night Claire called me.

On a warm, golden Saturday evening, the sun bathed the riverside garden of the Claire Sterling Center in a brilliant, radiant light.
Friends, family, and colleagues gathered beneath a white silk canopy for Claire and Julian’s wedding ceremony.
I stood beside my daughter at the head of the aisle, wearing my finest dark suit. Claire looked like an angel in a simple, breathtaking ivory lace gown, holding a bouquet of white lilies and fresh lavender.
She turned to look at me, her hand resting gently over my arm.
“Ready, Dad?” Claire whispered, her eyes shining with radiant joy.
I looked at her beautiful, healed face—at the complete peace and happiness that radiated from her soul—and squeezed her hand tightly.
“I’ve been ready since the day you were born, baby,” I answered softly.
We walked down the aisle together, step by step, across the sunlit grass, toward Julian, who stood waiting with tears of pure devotion in his eyes.
When I placed Claire’s hand into Julian’s, I looked him straight in his eyes.
“Take care of my heart, Julian,” I murmured.
“With my life, Arthur,” Julian promised firmly.
The officiant smiled, his voice carrying clearly over the gentle river breeze as the ceremony began.
I walked back to my seat in the front row, sitting beside Marcus Vance and Officer Rodriguez.
I looked up at the endless, clear blue sky above us. The dark storm of betrayal, abuse, and fear had passed completely, leaving behind an ocean of light, purpose, and unbroken joy.
My daughter was safe. Her life was whole. Her future was limitless.
I closed my eyes, took a deep, clean breath of the sweet spring air, and smiled.
