THE SHADOW OF BELLARDI / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - The Sovereign QueenOne year later, the grand ballroom of the Grand Sterling Hotel was illuminated once again for the annual Manhattan Business Leadership Gala.

Hundreds of elite investors, corporate leaders, and international dignitaries moved through the sparkling room beneath the crystal chandeliers. But the atmosphere tonight was vastly different from the gala where my heart had once been broken.

Tonight, the room was filled with genuine respect, celebration, and purpose.

I stood at the top of the grand marble staircase, wearing a stunning floor-floor emerald silk gown, holding a glass of vintage champagne. Beside me stood Dominic, looking impeccably handsome in his tuxedo, his hand gently resting against the small of my back.

"Announcing," the master of ceremonies boomed through the microphone, "Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Bellardi!"

The entire ballroom erupted into thunderous applause as we walked down the grand staircase together.

I looked across the room—at the business leaders who now sought our counsel, at the flourishing foundation we had built to help thousands of women, and at the strong, devoted man who had stood by my side as my equal, my protector, and my love.

My phone chimed softly in my clutch. A brief notification flashed from the federal prison registry: Nathan Wexler's petition for parole review has been formally denied.

I closed the notification with a quiet smile, slipping my phone away forever.

I leaned into Dominic’s side as he pulled me close, raising his champagne glass alongside mine.

"To the empire we built," Dominic whispered softly into my ear.

"To the future we own," I replied, bringing my glass against his with a clear, sparkling chime.

The betrayal that was meant to break me had instead led me to my throne. I was no longer the quiet heiress hiding behind a lying fiancé. I was Clara Bellardi—unbroken, sovereign, and loved beyond measure forever.
