Chapter 14 - The Man Who Asked What I Wanted

Three years after divorce, I met Thomas Reed.

Not Marcus investigator, different. Let's call Jonathan Reed to avoid clash.

Jonathan Reed was fifty, widowed, owned small bakery supply company.

We met at hospitality conference.

He knew story vaguely.

Did not care celebrity.

On third date he asked:

“What do you want?”

I nearly answered business goals.

He said, “No. Tonight. What do you want to eat?”

I laughed.

Simple question felt foreign.

We dated slowly.

I told him scars made me self-conscious.

He said, “They look like evidence you survived something.”

No poetry beyond that.

Good.

I did not need savior.

I needed someone who did not require carrying.
