THE RETRIBUTION OF BETRAYAL / Chapter 4 / 10

Chapter 4 - GATHERING THE EVIDENCE4.1. Secret Medical InterventionThe next morning, under the guise of finalizing bank transfer paperwork, I drove Claire out of the house. We went straight to Phoenix General Hospital, where an old university classmate of mine—now a leading oncologist—was waiting for us.

After two hours of comprehensive examinations, Dr. Vance stepped out into the consultation room with a grave but focused expression.

"David, Claire's condition is serious, but there is clear hope," Dr. Vance explained. "The tumor in her left breast is at Stage 2B. With immediate surgery followed by targeted chemotherapy, her five-year survival rate is over 80%. However, she is severely malnourished and exhausted. We must stabilize her physical strength immediately."

"Use every top-tier treatment available, Doctor," I said, holding Claire's hand. "Finances are no longer an obstacle."

I checked Claire into a private, high-security recovery suite under a pseudonym and hired two private security guards to stand watch outside her door around the clock.

4.2. Setting the Stage for the GalaReturning to the mansion, I continued playing the oblivious, dutiful son. I announced to my mother that our "buyout celebration gala" would take place this Friday evening in the backyard garden.

"We’ll invite all your high-society friends, your old banking colleagues, and local media," I told Diane enthusiastically. "I want everyone to see how successful our family is."

"Oh, David! That sounds marvelous!" my mother beamed, her eyes dancing with vanity. "I'll wear my finest gown. We must show them our status!"

She had no idea that the guest list I was personally compiling included state health inspectors, fraud investigators from the Phoenix Police Department, and representatives from the district attorney's office.
