Chapter 3 - SHADOWS IN THE STORAGE ROOM3.1. The Late-Night Digital AuditAt 2:00 AM, while the house slept after a night of champagne and self-congratulation, I quietly closed my bedroom door. I grabbed my laptop, an encrypted external hard drive, and slipped out to the backyard storage room.

Claire was awake, sitting anxiously on the edge of her narrow folding cot.
"David... are you sure this is safe?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "Your mother... she knows powerful people. She could hurt you."
"Don't worry, honey," I said softly, sitting beside her and holding her thin hands. "I'm here now. No one will ever hurt you again."
I opened my laptop and connected to a hidden security camera system I had secretly installed throughout the house two years ago—a system my mother assumed was broken and turned off.
3.2. Evidence of CrueltyThe archived video footage on my screen made my blood run cold.
March 14th: My mother snatched a bowl of soup from Claire's hands and dumped it onto the floor simply because Claire spilled a drop on the dining table.
April 22nd: Ashley shoved Claire violently to the kitchen tile when Claire begged for her health insurance card, kicking her in the ribs as she lay on the floor.
May 10th: During a garden tea party, when Claire collapsed from sheer exhaustion and malnutrition, my mother dragged her across the patio into the windowless storage room, locked the heavy bolt from the outside, and left her without food or water for 24 hours.
"Why didn't you tell me over the phone?" I choked back tears, my chest aching as I kissed her knuckles.

"She monitored my phone every day, David," Claire sobbed quietly. "She threatened that if I said a word, she’d hire someone to cause an 'accident' on your engineering site. I couldn't risk your life..."
Claire's sacrifice cut deeper than any blade. I compiled every footage clip, every bank statement showing $180,000 wired directly to Ashley's personal accounts, and Claire's medical records from the community clinic into a single folder labeled: THE VERDICT.
