Chapter 6 - The Injunction StrikeAt eight o'clock sharp, while federal agents were securing the penthouse, Daniel and I walked into the county chancery court downtown.

We weren't alone. Accompanying us was Prosecutor Sarah Jenkins—a fierce, no-nonsense Assistant State Attorney specializing in elder abuse—and two armed uniformed officers.

Judge William Thomas, a veteran judge known for his zero-tolerance stance on fraud, presided over the emergency hearing in his private chambers.

Daniel laid out the evidence on the judge’s wide oak desk: Dr. Aris’s sworn medical affidavit, the forged quitclaim deed, the ICU visitor logs showing my mother was isolated on October 14th, and the federal task force’s freeze order on Apex Title Services.

Judge Thomas adjusted his glasses, reading through Dr. Aris’s affidavit line by line. His brow furrowed deeper with every page.

“This woman was in the ICU under heavy sedation,” Judge Thomas said, his voice trembling with quiet outrage. “And this notary, Greg Miller, certified that she appeared before him lucidly and willingly?”

“Yes, Your Honor,” Prosecutor Jenkins stepped forward. “Furthermore, federal agents arrested Greg Miller an hour ago at his residence. Under interrogation, Miller confessed that Evan Vance and Marissa Vance paid him ten thousand dollars in cash to notarize a blank deed template without the victim present.”

Judge Thomas slammed his hand down onto the desk, making his coffee cup rattle.

“This isn't just fraud,” Judge Thomas declared. “This is a predatory, heinous assault on an incapacitated senior citizen. I am signing an Emergency Order of Injunction immediately.”

He pulled out his official seal, stamping three copies of the court order with heavy, authoritative thuds.

“Order one,” Judge Thomas announced: “The quitclaim deed recorded under Document 4821 is hereby declared VOID AB INITIO. Title to 1420 Elmwood Lane is restored immediately and exclusively to Eleanor Vance.”

“Order two: An immediate restraining order is issued prohibiting Evan Vance, Marissa Vance, or any agent acting on their behalf from approaching within one thousand yards of Eleanor Vance or the property.”

“Order three: The Sheriff’s Office is directed to execute a bench warrant for the immediate arrest of Marissa Vance on charges of forgery, filing false legal instruments, and felony conspiracy.”

I closed my eyes, letting out a long, shuddering breath. Tears spilled over my eyelashes, but for the first time in twenty-four hours, they weren't tears of grief—they were tears of overwhelming relief.

My father’s house was saved. My mother’s name was cleared.

Daniel wrapped his arm around my shoulders, kissing the side of my head. “I told you, Hannah. Nobody hurts our family and walks away.”
