Chapter 11 - Uncovering the PastAs the legal transition of my mother's estate rights proceeded, investigators uncovered an even darker layer to why my mother had fled decades ago. It wasn't just a simple teenage rebellion; corporate rivals of the Vale family had attempted to leverage the young Rosalind in a hostile takeover attempt, and her own father had prioritized corporate security over her emotional well-being, driving her away.
Learning this, Adrian made it his personal mission to ensure that our branch of the family was granted absolute autonomy, security, and financial protection, completely separated from the cold, ruthless corporate politics that had stolen my mother's youth.
"I won't let history repeat itself," Adrian promised me one evening as we walked through the private gardens of the Beacon Hill estate. "You and Lucia are protected by everything I am and everything I own."
