THE MECHANIC'S VERDICT / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - The Shop on Route 41Six months later.

The spring sun shone bright over Harlow, Tennessee. The air was warm, sweet with the scent of blooming wildflowers and fresh mountain pine.

Outside Tate Auto Repair, the cracked concrete lot had been freshly paved. A new, gleaming sign hung above the bays: Tate & Calloway Logistics & Repair.

We had merged the operations. With Marcus Drew facing federal prison time and his empire dismantled by regulators, Jade and Lily had reclaimed full ownership of their father’s route contracts. Instead of selling out, Jade had moved the administrative headquarters of Calloway Logistics right here to Harlow, partnering with my shop to manage a fleet of twenty regional delivery trucks.

Lily sat on the front porch of my newly renovated house down the street, doing her homework under the shade of a large oak tree, her face bright and free of worry.

Inside the shop’s clean, sunlit office, Jade stood by the window, reviewing the quarterly dispatch schedules on a tablet. She wore a simple white sundress, her dark hair falling softly around her shoulders, radiant and happy.

I walked up behind her, sliding my arms around her waist and resting my chin on her shoulder.

“How do the numbers look, partner?” I asked gently.

Jade leaned back against my chest, laying her hands over mine with a soft, content sigh. “Numbers look amazing, Owen. Three new contracts signed in Kentucky this morning.”

She turned in my arms, looking up at me with eyes filled with love and deep peace.

“My father knew what he was doing when he gave us your name,” she whispered, touching my cheek softly. “He didn't just send us to a mechanic to fix a car. He sent us to the man who was going to build our future.”

I smiled, leaning down to press a warm, lingering kiss onto her lips.

Outside, the highway hummed with passing trucks under the clear blue sky—a road that once brought two stranded sisters to my window in a storm, and now led us together down a long, beautiful road home.
