Chapter 15 - The Unseen Harvest
Among those seeking shelter at a Chicago distribution center was a young woman named Clara Vance. She was nineteen, shivering, and cradling a small canvas bag containing everything she owned. She had dropped out of community college after her mother died, leaving her burdened with medical debts she could not pay.
When Noah handed her a bowl of soup and a warm loaf of bread, Clara didn't eat right away. She sat staring at the bread, tears freezing on her cheeks. "Why are you doing this?" she asked softly. "No one gives anything away without wanting something back." Noah sat beside her on the cold folding chair. "Someone gave me a loaf of bread when I had nothing, Clara. The only thing I want back is for you to stay warm tonight so you can build tomorrow."
