Chapter 8 - Cracks in the EngagementMarcus looked up as Clara set the documents on his desk.

“While auditing the estate’s catering and event vendor accounts from last year,” Clara explained, pointing to a series of cross-referenced bank numbers, “I noticed that Sterling Investments had been secretly routing unauthorized consulting fees through Vanessa’s private wedding account.”

Marcus’s eyes widened as he scanned the audit trail. “Richard Sterling was using my estate expenses to disguise his bank’s offshore liquidity shortfalls!”

“And the shipping compliance failure they flagged today?” Clara smiled softly, pulling out a certified digital receipt. “The original, unedited maritime manifest was backed up on our estate’s secure server. I retrieved it an hour ago. It proves Richard Sterling forged the audit filings.”

Marcus stared at Clara in complete awe.

He stood up, grabbing her shoulders, pulling her into a fierce, joyous embrace!

“You’re incredible, Clara!” Marcus laughed, kissing her cheek. “You just saved my company!”

Clara’s face flushed pink, her heart soaring as Marcus looked down into her eyes with raw, unconditional devotion.

“I didn't save your company because of the money, Marcus,” Clara whispered softly. “I saved it because you gave my daughter and me a home when we had nothing.”

Marcus leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips—a tender, passionate promise that sealed their hearts forever.
