Chapter 4 - Whispers in the Flower PotBefore the security guards could reach Clara, tiny, pitter-patter footsteps echoed across the marble floor.

Three-year-old Lily stepped out from behind the velvet curtain, clutching her stuffed elephant tightly against her chest.
The little girl looked at her motherâs tear-streaked face. Then she looked at Vanessaâs furious expression. Finally, she looked up at Marcus.
Lily pointed her small, chubby finger directly at Vanessaâs champagne dress.
In a clear, innocent, three-year-old voice that carried across the silent room, Lily whispered:
âShe hid it herself.â
A collective gasp rippled through eighty high-society guests!
Vanessaâs face instantly drained of every drop of color. She took a quick, panicked step back. âWhat?! Marcus, don't listen to that child! Sheâs three years old!â
Marcus crouched down on the marble floor, bringing himself eye-level with little Lily. His voice was incredibly gentle, completely ignoring his fiancée.
âWhat did you see, sweetheart?â Marcus asked softly.
Lily pointed her little finger toward the grand conservatory sitting room near the hall.
âThe shiny wrist-thing,â Lily spoke simply. âThe angry lady put it under the dirt in the big green flower pot before she started screaming.â
Marcus stood up slowly. His tall frame seemed to tower over the room, his eyes turning cold as mountain ice as he fixed his gaze on Vanessa.

âThomas,â Marcus commanded his head butler calmly. âCheck the porcelain urn in the sitting room.â
Thomas walked into the sitting room. Five seconds later, he stepped back out, holding a sparkling diamond tennis bracelet covered in damp potting soil.
