Chapter 19 - THE CHOICE THAT ENDED THE COSTA EMPIRE|

Graham wanted to storm every building Victor owned.

But Tabitha stopped him.

"That's exactly what he wants."

"He has Eleanor."

"And he wants you to arrive angry, armed, and alone."

Graham looked at her.

"What do you suggest?"

"We give him what he thinks he wants."

She explained that the original recordings and financial documents could be used as bait.

But instead of exchanging them privately, they would arrange a meeting in a location monitored by federal investigators.

Graham understood the danger.

If the evidence became public, his own criminal organization would be exposed.

He agreed anyway.

The meeting was arranged at an abandoned shipping terminal near the Hudson River.

Victor arrived with Simon Hale and several armed men.

Eleanor was seated in a chair near the loading platform.

Graham stepped out of his vehicle carrying a briefcase.

Victor smiled.

"My son."

"Don't call me that."

Victor looked disappointed.

"You've become sentimental."

"I've become tired."

Graham placed the briefcase on a metal table.

"Let her go."

Victor opened it.

Inside were copies of the recordings and financial records.

He looked through the documents.

Then he laughed.

"These are not the originals."

"No."

"Where are they?"

"Already delivered to investigators."

Victor's smile disappeared.

"You stupid boy."

Graham looked at him.

"You spent your life teaching me that fear was power. But you were wrong."

Victor raised his weapon.

"Power is whatever survives."

"Then let's see what survives tonight."

The terminal lights suddenly came on.

Federal agents surrounded the building.

Victor's men panicked.

Simon Hale tried to escape through a side entrance.

Tabitha, watching from the secured vehicle, saw him approaching the rear exit.

She immediately alerted the officers.

Hale was arrested before reaching the parking area.

Victor grabbed Eleanor and held his gun against her.

"Nobody moves!"

Graham took one step forward.

"Let her go."

Victor laughed.

"You're still making the same mistake."

He looked at Tabitha.

"Your mother died because she believed people could be saved."

Tabitha stepped out of the vehicle.

Graham turned sharply.

"Stay back!"

But she kept walking.

"You're wrong, Victor."

He aimed his weapon toward her.

"Your mother died because she refused to let you control her. And she saved us because she believed we deserved a better life."

Victor's expression twisted.

"She destroyed this family."

"No. You did."

For one moment, Victor seemed unable to respond.

Eleanor suddenly knocked the weapon from his hand.

An agent tackled him.

The terminal erupted into shouting.

Within seconds, Victor was handcuffed.

Graham stood motionless.

His father was finally defeated.

But the victory came with a price.

The investigation would expose the Costa organization, and Graham would have to answer for his own crimes.

He looked at Tabitha.

"There's something I need to tell you."

She approached.

"I know."

"I may lose everything."

She shook her head.

"You've already lost the things that never mattered."

He looked at her.

"And what if I go to prison?"

She swallowed.

"Then I'll visit."

Graham's eyes softened.

For the first time, the man who had commanded an empire had no answer.

Several months later, the court delivered its verdict.

Victor Costa received a life sentence.

Simon Hale was convicted of multiple murders, kidnapping, and falsifying medical records.

Graham accepted responsibility for his own criminal activities and agreed to cooperate with investigators.

But before the sentencing hearing, one final piece of evidence emerged.

A sealed letter from Isabella.

It contained instructions about the future of the Costa family trust.

And the person named to control it was not Graham.

It was Tabitha.
