Chapter 11 - The Secret Behind the Family Fortune|

Dominic stared at the photograph for a long time.

Then he turned toward Gabriel.

“Find out who took this.”

“We're checking the cameras.”

“No.”

His voice was sharp.

“Start with everyone who knew Lily slept in that room.”

I looked down at my daughter's photograph.

Someone had stood over her bed.

Someone had watched her sleeping.

And I hadn't known.

My entire body shook with rage.

“I want her out of this house.”

Dominic turned toward me.

“Mara—”

“Tonight.”

I gripped the photograph.

“I don't care who you are. I don't care how powerful you are. I will not let my daughter become collateral damage in whatever nightmare your family is hiding.”

For a moment, he looked wounded.

Then he nodded.

“You're right.”

Gabriel frowned.

“Boss, moving them could expose them.”

“Then make the move secure.”

Dominic looked at me.

“You choose where you go. Gabriel will arrange protection, but no one moves Lily without your permission.”

I hadn't expected that.

I had spent six years following orders inside that mansion.

Now Dominic Moretti was letting me make a decision no one else seemed willing to trust me with.

Before I could answer, his attorney arrived.

Simon Voss entered wearing a charcoal suit and an expression of practiced concern.

“Dominic, I heard about the terrible incident.”

He noticed the photograph.

His eyes flickered.

Only for a second.

But I saw it.

Dominic smiled without warmth.

“Simon. Perfect timing.”

The attorney adjusted his cuff.

“What can I do?”

“I want the original documents governing Ethan's inheritance.”

Simon hesitated.

“Those are complex financial arrangements. This isn't the time—”

“Bring them.”

“Dominic, surely you understand that some provisions are protected by—”

Dominic slammed his palm onto the desk.

“Bring. Them.”

Simon went silent.

Then he smiled.

“Of course.”

After he left, Gabriel handed Dominic a separate report.

“What is it?” I asked.

“A preliminary review of the trust.”

Dominic opened it.

His expression slowly changed.

If Ethan died before reaching the age specified in Elena's estate documents, a large portion of his inheritance could be transferred to Saint Agnes.

A foundation overseen by Celeste.

With Simon acting as legal administrator.

I looked at Dominic.

“They wanted his money?”

Dominic shook his head.

“It's worse than that.”

He turned the page toward me.

“The foundation wouldn't simply inherit funds.”

I read the next paragraph.

My stomach turned.

“It would gain voting control over several companies.”

“Yes.”

“Your companies?”

“Some of them.”

Dominic looked toward the door Simon had just walked through.

“Someone isn't trying to steal my son's birthday.”

May you like

His voice became cold.

“They're trying to steal his future.”
