Chapter 12 - Edge of the BalconyWithout hesitation, Mrs. Man tackled Tuan’s legs, giving Mr. Cap Vu time to retreat. Enraged, Tuan struck Mrs. Man with the butt of his gun, sending her falling to the floor, bleeding from her head.
"Mother!" Cuong—who had managed to break through the ventilation shaft and burst upstairs with the child—screamed in agony.
Handing the boy to Mr. Cap Vu, Cuong charged at Tuan like a wild animal, tackling him out onto the third-floor balcony in the pouring rain. The marble floor was slick, and the two men fought fiercely against the low railing overlooking the courtyard below.
Seeing the battle lost, Yen grabbed a duffel bag filled with stolen jewels and bearer bonds, racing down the rear fire escape. But as she hit the ground floor, flashing lights flooded the courtyard.
