Chapter 5 - The White Cage

"Ethan will come for me," Grace cried out, her voice raspy, broken from days of screaming for help in the soundproofed wing. She reached through the cold white bars with both hands, gripping the iron until her knuckles turned translucent. "He knows who you are! He knows you're monsters!"

Victoria stepped closer to the bars, her high heels clicking sharply against the floor. "Ethan is a businessman, darling. He understands legacy, not charity. Once he holds his son, he will move on with a proper woman who understands our stature. You were always just an inconvenient detour."

I stood frozen in the arched shadow of the doorway, every nerve in my body burning with absolute rage. My vision tunneled. The sight of my wife—humiliated, terrorized, locked in a literal birdcage while carrying our child—erased every shred of restraint I had ever possessed.

I stepped out of the darkness and into the chandelier light.

"Step away from my wife," I said, my voice dangerously low and vibrating through the vast room.

Julian spun around, his smirk vanishing instantly as his eyes widened in terror. Victoria gasped, dropping her arms to her sides as her composed expression shattered into pure panic.

"Ethan!" Grace sobbed from inside the cage, her tear-filled eyes locking onto mine with desperate relief. "Ethan!"

"Ethan, wait—this isn't what it looks like," Julian stammered, raising his hands and taking a step backward. "Your mother and I were just... we were protecting the baby! Grace had an episode! She threatened to harm herself—"

Before he could finish the sentence, I crossed the floor in three strides. I grabbed Julian by the lapels of his designer suit and slammed him violently against the gilded mirror behind him. The antique glass spiderwebbed with a deafening crack.

"Where is the key, Julian?" I growled, pressing my forearm hard against his throat.

"Ethan, stop this madness!" Victoria screamed, running forward. "You'll ruin everything we've built!"

"Where is the key?!" I roared, tightening my grip until Julian’s face turned deep crimson.
