The Fire in the Inheritance / Chapter 5 / 10

Chapter 5 - The ReconstructionThe next three months were a whirlwind of legal battles and corporate restructuring.

The story of the "Scarred Twin" went viral across social media. The public, initially prepared to mock me, rallied behind my story of survival and justice. The shares of our mother's skincare company plummeted, but Richard and I moved quickly. Using the power of my grandmother’s trust, I seized control of the board, removing my mother from her executive position.

I hired a new PR team, but this time, the message was different. We rebranded the company from Flawless Skin to True Skin.

One afternoon, I sat in the grand boardroom of the company's downtown headquarters. The walls were lined with old advertisements featuring Lila’s airbrushed face.

"Nora, the board wants to know who the new face of the campaign will be," my creative director, Marcus, asked. "We need a strong, powerful image to launch the rebranding."

"I have the perfect candidate," I said, opening a folder.

I pulled out a photograph. It was a raw, unedited portrait of myself, my shoulder and neck scars clearly visible under soft, elegant lighting. There was no airbrushing, no green concealer, and no shame.

"We aren't hiding anymore," I said. "Our customers deserve to see that beauty isn't about being unscarred. It's about surviving the fire."
