Chapter 19 - The First Time Noah Called Me Family|

Tyler's surgery took place three weeks later.
By then, the investigation into Three Bells had expanded across multiple states.
Marcus Bell remained in custody.
Dr. Kessler had been arrested after investigators located him at a private residence outside Milwaukee.
Several employees had begun cooperating.
But Evelyn's whereabouts remained unknown.
Dominic hadn't stopped looking.
Neither had Detective Vega.
Meanwhile, Tyler had finally received financial assistance through an independent hospital hardship program.
Dominic had offered to help as well, without conditions, but I wanted my brother's treatment to remain separate from the investigation and my relationship with the Vale family.
When the surgeon finally emerged after the operation, I could barely stand.
“Clara Reed?”
“Yes.”
He smiled.
“Your brother made it through surgery.”
I covered my mouth.
“Is he okay?”
“He's stable. He'll need careful recovery and follow-up treatment, but the procedure went as planned.”
I began crying.
Not quietly.
Not gracefully.
I cried the way a person cries after carrying too much fear for too long.
Dominic was standing beside me.
He didn't say anything.
He simply offered his hand.
I took it.
And for several seconds, that was enough.
Later, when Tyler was awake, I sat beside his hospital bed.
He smiled weakly.
“So…”
I laughed through my tears.
“So what?”
“Does this mean I get a normal heart and an extremely intimidating brother-in-law?”
My face turned bright red.
“Tyler!”
He grinned.
“What? I saw the way that guy looks at you.”
“Stop talking.”
“Never.”
I squeezed his hand.
For the first time in months, we laughed together.
That evening, I returned to the mansion.
Noah was waiting in the foyer wearing his yellow hoodie.
He ran toward me.
“Clara!”
I dropped to my knees.
“Hey, sweetheart.”
He wrapped his arms around my neck.
“Is Tyler better?”
I nodded.
“He's getting better.”
Noah smiled.
Then whispered:
“Good. We can all stay together.”
My chest tightened.
“All?”
He nodded seriously.
“Daddy. Me. You. And Tyler.”
I kissed his hair.
“You have a very big heart, Noah.”
He looked at me.
Then said something that brought tears to my eyes.
“Are you my family now?”
I glanced toward the staircase.
Dominic stood there watching us.
His expression was gentle.
I looked back at Noah.
“If you'd like me to be, I'll always care about you.”
The boy smiled.
Then pressed his little hand against my cheek.
“Good.”
He rested his head on my shoulder.
“Because Mommy said family is people who come back.”
I held him close.
And for the first time, the mansion didn't feel like a prison.
It felt like a place that might someday become a home.
Later, Dominic found me on the terrace.
“I don't want you to feel obligated to stay,” he said.
I looked at him.
“I'm not staying because of the salary.”
He nodded slowly.
“I hoped that was true.”
Our eyes met.
Something warm and frightening passed between us.
But neither of us rushed to name it.
Dominic reached for my hand.
I let him take it.
Then he whispered:
“Clara, when all of this is over, I'd like to ask you to dinner.”
I smiled.
“A real dinner?”
“No bodyguards at the table.”
I laughed.
“That sounds like a good start.”
For the first time, Dominic smiled without sadness.
Then Gabriel appeared in the doorway.
“Boss, Detective Vega has new evidence.”
Dominic turned.
“What evidence?”
Gabriel hesitated.
“An original recording from the night Evelyn disappeared.”
My heart began pounding.
May you like
Gabriel looked directly at me.
“And apparently, there's something on it you both need to see.”
