Chapter 5 - Setting the TrapThe next five days were a blur of legal maneuvers and quiet preparation. While Ethan, Linda, and Ashley were living it up in Miami—posting endless photos of expensive meals and designer shopping bags—we were systematically dismantling their lives.

First, we cut the credit cards.
It happened on a Thursday afternoon. According to our transaction logs, Linda was in the middle of a high-end department store, attempting to purchase three designer leather jackets. When the card was swiped, it didn't just decline; it flagged the account as stolen. The cashier immediately confiscated the card, leaving Linda screaming in the middle of the store while Ethan tried frantically to log into his online banking app.
But his access had been entirely revoked. His username didn't exist. The joint account he thought he shared with me had been closed, and the remaining funds—which were entirely mine—had been transferred to a secure private trust.
Next, we targeted the house.
A team of commercial locksmiths arrived at the stone villa. They removed the traditional deadbolts and installed a state-of-the-art digital smart lock system with facial recognition and encrypted keypads. Security cameras were upgraded to high-definition models that fed directly to my phone and the security firm’s monitoring station.
Finally, Robert’s team posted the official red notice on the front door.
Written in bold, unmistakable letters, the notice declared that the property was under corporate legal control and that any unauthorized entry would be prosecuted as criminal trespassing. The locks were changed, the security system was armed, and the staff had been instructed to report any sightings of Ethan or his family to the police.
"They are scheduled to land tomorrow at noon," Hannah said, handing me a cup of chamomile tea as I rocked Liam in the nursery. "Robert’s team has already alerted the local precinct. If Ethan tries to force his way into the house, they will arrest him on the spot."
I looked down at Liam, his tiny face relaxed in a deep, peaceful sleep. "I don't want a scene in front of my son, Hannah. But they need to understand that the woman they locked in that house is gone."
"Oh, they’ll understand," Hannah said, her voice dripping with satisfaction. "Linda spent the last three years treating you like a bank account with a pulse. Tomorrow, she’s going to realize she’s completely broke."
"And Ethan?" I asked, a faint pang of regret hitting my chest, though it was quickly swallowed by the memory of the heavy deadbolt locking me in.

"Ethan is about to learn the true cost of cowardice," Hannah said. "He chose his mother over his wife and newborn child. Now, he gets to live with the consequences."
As the night settled over the city, I stared out the window at the distant mountains. I knew that tomorrow would be a storm. But as I looked at the sleek digital interface on my phone, which showed the empty, quiet security feeds of my beautiful stone villa, I knew I was ready. The fortress was locked, and only I held the keys.
