Chapter 2 - The Ballroom EntranceThe grand ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel was filled with over four hundred guests from New York high society.

Chandeliers glimmered overhead, white orchids lined the aisle, and a string quartet played softly near the altar. Ryan stood at the front in his custom tuxedo, looking handsome, confident, and utterly oblivious to the storm brewing beneath the surface.
Vanessa stepped down the aisle in a hand-beaded lace gown that cost eighty thousand dollars, her veil floating gracefully behind her.
I sat in the front row on the groomâs side, wearing a deep emerald silk gown. A matching emerald silk scarf was wrapped securely around my head.
Beside me sat Arthur Pendelton, my late husbandâs lifelong personal attorney and trustee, holding a black leather briefcase.
When Vanessa reached the altar, she cast a brief, triumphant glance at me in the front row, giving me a subtle, mocking smirk. She believed she had stripped me of my dignity before the highest social circle in the state.

She didn't know that Arthur Pendelton wasn't holding the $120 million transfer papers in his briefcase.
He was holding the irrevocable conditions of my late husbandâs original will.
