Chapter 3 - The Overheard PlotDevastated, Imogen dried her face with a paper towel and forced herself to return to the dining hall.

She carried a silver tray of empty champagne flutes toward the service corridor near the master study, intending to clear the back tables away from the main crowd.
As she stepped near the heavy oak doors of the study, she heard hushed, urgent voices speaking inside.
The door was ajar by an inch.
â...she has no idea, Harrison,â a womanâs voice whisperedâa voice Imogen recognized instantly as Diane Aldcottâs sister, Victoria. âIâve already spoken to the board. Weâre redirecting the annual catering budget to Apex Luxury Events.â
âAnd what about Reyes Catering?â a manâs voice askedâHarrison, the regional director of the charity foundation.
âTheyâre drowning in debt,â Victoria chuckled softly. âBeatriz Reyes bought new kitchen equipment six months ago on credit. If we drop her account tonight, her bank will foreclose on her commercial facility by January 15th. We can buy her equipment at auction for pennies on the dollar for Apex!â

Imogen froze in the dimly lit hallway, her fingers gripping the edge of her silver tray until her knuckles turned ghostly white!
This wasn't just an accidental contract loss. Dianeâs sister and the charity director had deliberately conspired to crash her motherâs company so they could seize her assets and funnel the high-margin contract to their own secret subsidiary, Apex Luxury Events!
