Chapter 5 - Unraveling the Hospitality Group

Working under Adrian Voss meant diving headfirst into an ocean of encrypted spreadsheets, shell companies, and offshore ledger accounts. For three weeks, I locked myself in my office, surviving on black coffee and sheer adrenaline, tracing the movement of capital across Adrian’s six restaurants and two hotels. What I discovered was a masterclass in corporate camouflage. Someone within the inner circle had been systematically skimming three percent off every major vendor contract, routing the funds through dummy accounts registered in the Cayman Islands.
Adrian visited my office late every evening, standing quietly by the floor-to-ceiling windows while I explained my findings on the whiteboard. He didn't interrupt; he simply listened, his piercing gaze tracking every stroke of my marker. "You have a mind for structure, Ellie," he noted one night as the city lights twinkled below us. "And a courage that refuses to bend." I turned around, wiping marker dust from my hands. "Survival teaches you how to look past the smoke, Adrian. But every ledger entry I trace leads right back to Gideon’s department. He’s the one authorizing the ghost vendor payouts." Adrian stepped closer, the air between us suddenly heavy with unspoken tension. "We let him think he’s winning," Adrian murmured. "We build the cage before we lock the door."
