Celeste was not arrested that afternoon. Her statement raised serious questions, but prosecutors needed proof that she had intentionally delayed medical help and conspired to falsify records. Her attorneys attacked the recording, claiming she had spoken emotionally and had been misunderstood.
For two days, the city’s most powerful family turned its war into headlines.
Celeste accused Olivia of targeting Adrian’s fortune. Anonymous stories appeared online questioning Olivia’s character and even Leo’s paternity. Reporters surrounded the penthouse entrance. Vale Holdings lost millions in market value before the board scheduled an emergency meeting to remove Adrian.
He had one chance to expose the truth.
Richard’s hidden original trust amendment had never been found, but Olivia remembered the pregnancy test on Adrian’s table. It had been stored inside a narrow wooden case engraved with Richard’s initials. When she opened the false bottom, she discovered a memory card.
Richard had recorded his last meeting with Celeste.
In the video, he confronted her about stealing from the family foundation and manipulating board votes. He said the revised trust would transfer her authority to an independent guardian when his first grandchild was born. Celeste grabbed his medication and demanded the document. Richard collapsed. Instead of calling for help, she searched his desk for nearly nine minutes.
The recording ended when a housekeeper entered and dialed emergency services.
At the board meeting, Celeste walked into the penthouse conference room expecting Adrian to surrender. Instead, directors, investigators, and the company’s outside counsel were waiting. Olivia stood near the windows with Leo in her arms.
Adrian played the video.
Celeste’s attorney tried to stop it, but the investigators already had the original memory card and metadata. The laboratory technician, Celeste’s assistant, and the former family attorney had all agreed to cooperate.
The board removed Celeste immediately. She was taken into custody for financial crimes, obstruction, document fraud, and charges connected to Richard’s death. The company announced that stolen foundation money would be restored and placed under independent supervision.
When the room emptied, Adrian faced Olivia.
A verified test had confirmed what neither of them truly needed to be told: Leo was his son.
Adrian offered Olivia the penthouse, financial security, and full control of Leo’s trust.
She shook her head.
“I do not want to win your family’s war,” she said. “I want our son to grow up outside it.”
Adrian looked across the apartment that had once represented everything he wanted.
