Chapter 2 - The Three Clicks“I revoked my personal guarantees,” I said, my voice carrying clearly through the silent storefront. “As of right now, Bennett Commercial Supply can no longer draw a single dollar against my credit.”

Tyler’s smirk vanished instantly. “Dad... what does that mean?”

Dad’s hands trembled so violently his phone nearly slipped from his fingers. The text alert from First National Bank was clear: REVOLVING CREDIT LINE SUSPENDED PER GUARANTOR REVOCATION.

“You... you disloyal bitch!” Dad roared, stepping toward me with his fist clenched.

Before he could take another step, two uniformed police officers stepped through the glass entrance doors of Haven & Pine. They had been stationed outside for security for the grand opening, and they had seen the entire assault through the window.

“Sir! Step away from her right now!” the lead officer commanded, his hand resting on his holster.

The Chamber president, several local reporters, and over fifty customers pulled out their phones, recording every second of Dad’s breakdown in 4K resolution.

“Officer, this is a family matter!” Dad sputtered, his face turning an ugly shade of red. “She’s my daughter!”

“And you just assaulted her in front of two hundred witnesses and three news cameras, Mr. Bennett,” the officer replied coldly. “Turn around and place your hands behind your back.”

CLICK-CLACK.
