Chapter 9 - The Fortress FallsTwo weeks after the downfall of Victor Crestwood, a grand celebration was held at the Callaway Estate to announce the successful merger of Callaway Capital and Mercer Global.

The estate grounds were filled with hundreds of politicians, business tycoons, and high-society reporters.

In the master suite of the main mansion, Margot stood before the floor-to-ceiling mirror, adjusting her diamond earrings.

A knock sounded at the door, and Leonard Callaway stepped inside, leaning on his cane. He looked happier and healthier than he had in years.

“You proved them all wrong, Margot,” Leonard said proudly, his voice thick with emotion. “The board unanimous voted to extend your tenure as CEO indefinitely.”

Margot turned to her grandfather, a soft smile playing on her lips. “You knew all along, didn't you? About Flynn?”

Leonard smiled gently. “I knew Flynn was the only man alive capable of keeping you safe from the snakes in our industry. But more than that... I knew he was the only man strong enough to stand beside you as an equal.”

“Why didn't you tell me the truth from the beginning?”

“Because,” Leonard chuckled softly, “if I told you he was an elite operative, you would have treated him like an asset. I needed you to see the man behind the uniform.”

After her grandfather left, Margot walked out to the balcony overlooking the gardens.

Down on the lawn, Flynn was playing tag with little Lily. The broad, powerful man who had dismantled a mercenary team with his bare hands was currently letting a four-year-old girl tackle him into the grass, laughing freely beneath the afternoon sun.

Margot felt a tear slip down her cheek—not a tear of stress or anger, but of overwhelming joy.

She walked down the marble staircase and out onto the lawn.

Lily saw her first and came running over, hugging Margot’s legs. “Margot! Daddy let me win!”

Margot knelt down, hugging the little girl tightly. “He’s a softie, isn't he?”

Flynn stood up, brushing grass off his trousers, and walked over to them. His eyes were warm as he looked down at Margot.

“You look breathtaking, Margot,” Flynn said softly.

Margot stood up, facing him. She reached into her clutch bag and pulled out a folded piece of paper—the thirty-four-page pre-nuptial agreement they had signed weeks ago.

Before Flynn could react, Margot tore the document in half, then tore it again, letting the white scraps of paper drift away on the afternoon breeze.

Flynn raised an eyebrow. “What are you doing?”
