Chapter 18 - THE LILY MOORE FOUNDATIONJames sold several of his companies.

The money went into a new foundation.
He named it after Lily.
The Lily Moore Foundation.
But this time, there were no giant photographs.
No statues of James.
No press events.
The foundation was built differently.
Every child had a name.
Every case was reviewed personally.
Every rejected application was examined.
And the first rule was simple:
No child would ever be reduced to a number.
Eli became part of the foundation.
Not as a symbol.
Not as a “miracle boy.”
As a person.
He attended school.
He learned quickly.
He loved science.
Especially biology.
Dr. Vell became his mentor.
Samuel joined him.
The two brothers had years to recover.
They fought sometimes.
Laughed often.
And slowly learned how to be brothers.
Anna and James adopted Eli officially.
The process took months.
Eli was terrified.
“What if you change your mind?”
James knelt in front of him.
“We won't.”
“What if Oliver gets better and you don't need me?”
James's face broke.
“You were never here because we needed you to save Oliver.”
Eli looked down.
“Then why?”
Anna answered:
“Because you are Eli.”
The boy did not understand.
Not completely.
But he began to.
One day, he threw away his old canvas bag.
Then immediately regretted it.
James found him staring at the trash.
“You want it back?”
Eli nodded.
James retrieved it.
Eli kept the bag.
He filled it with things.
Books.
A notebook.
A photograph of Lily.
And a small toy Oliver had given him.
The bag had once carried everything he owned.
Now it carried memories.
May you like
Not stolen ones.
His own.
