Chapter 4 - THE MAN WHO DISAPPEAREDI couldn't move.

My father walked toward me.
I wanted to hit him.
I wanted to hug him.
I wanted to scream.
Instead, I whispered his name.
“Victor.”
He stopped.
Tears filled his eyes.
“I know.”
“You let me believe you were dead.”
“Yes.”
“For seven years.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
He looked at Julian.
“Because your husband wanted me dead.”
Julian's face went white.
“That isn't true.”
My father smiled sadly.
“You told your business partner that I was the only person standing between you and Blackwood Holdings.”
Julian said nothing.
“You hired someone to locate me.”
Nothing.
“You threatened my attorney.”
Silence.
“You tried to acquire the trust through a fraudulent amendment.”
Laura stepped forward.
“And we have evidence.”
Julian looked at her.
“How?”
She opened her folder.
“Because your father-in-law spent eighteen months collecting it.”
My father placed a small black drive on the table.
“Every email.”
Another.
“Every transfer.”
Another.
“Every recorded conversation.”
Julian stared at the evidence.
Then he looked at me.
“You knew?”
“No.”
“Your father told you?”
“No.”
“Then why did you leave me?”
I answered quietly.
“Because I saw enough.”
He laughed.
“You were waiting for this.”
“No.”
I looked toward the staircase.
“I was waiting until Harrison was safe.”
My father nodded.
“That was always her priority.”
Julian looked at him.
“What do you want?”
My father smiled.
“Nothing.”
That confused him.
“Then why?”
“Because Elena doesn't need revenge.”
He turned toward me.
“She needs her life back.”
My father reached into his coat.
He pulled out a small envelope.
“My daughter, there is something you need to know.”
I opened it.
Inside was a photograph.
Harrison.
But not the Harrison I knew.
He was sitting beside a man.
A man I had never seen.
My father whispered:
“Julian is not the only person who has been lying to you.”
I stared at the photograph.
“Who is that?”
My father didn't answer.
Instead, he looked at Laura.
“Tell her.”
Laura swallowed.
“The DNA test came back yesterday.”
My heart stopped.
“What DNA test?”
She placed a report on the table.
“Your son.”
I looked down.
Then back at them.
“What's wrong with Harrison?”
Laura's eyes softened.
“Nothing is wrong with him.”
She paused.
“But the man listed as his father may not be his biological father.”
Julian exploded.
“What?”
I looked at him.
He looked terrified.
Laura continued.
“The test was ordered because of a medical discrepancy in Harrison's records.”
Julian's face went pale.
My father whispered:
“Elena…”
I couldn't hear anything anymore.
May you like
Except one sentence.
Julian may not be Harrison's father.
