Chapter 8 - DEREK’S TERROR

Driven by sheer desperation, Derek drove his last remaining un-impounded sedan straight to the Lincoln Park brownstone, pounding frantically on the heavy oak door. "Grace! Open the door! Let me explain!" he screamed into the quiet night, his voice cracking with hysteria.
The heavy oak door swung open slowly, but it wasn't Grace standing on the threshold. It was Judge Vance, flanked by two private security guards. Grace stepped out behind them, wearing a comfortable cashmere sweater, her posture calm, radiant, and completely unbreakable. She looked down at her estranged husband with serene detachment.
"You told me I had no future without you, Derek," Grace said softly, her voice echoing in the crisp night air. "You thought leaving me on the pavement in the rain would silence me forever. But you forgot one fundamental rule of law: truth leaves a paper trail." Derek lunged forward, begging, pleading for mercy, but the security guards stepped forward, blocking his path as the red flashing lights of a squad car rounded the corner to arrest him for violating the restraining order.
