Chapter 5 - The Masterclass of DeceptionThe morning of the next day, the Cole family made their first public move.

I was sitting in Maya’s apartment, drinking a glass of water, when my phone began buzzing relentlessly with notifications. I turned on the television.
On the screen was a live broadcast of a press conference held outside the Cole Industries headquarters. Celeste Cole stood at the podium, wearing a elegant, somber gray suit, her face holding a look of perfect, heartbroken maternal grief. Beside her stood Adrian, his arm held in a white sling, looking like a victim of a terrible tragedy.
"Our family is absolutely devastated," Celeste said into the microphones, her voice trembling with practiced, dramatic emotion. "We welcomed Elena into our home, we offered her our love, our wealth, and our name. But we quickly realized that she was a deeply unstable, violent young woman who was only interested in our family's fortune. On their wedding night, she became hysterical, physically assaulted my son, and attempted to extort millions of dollars from us under the threat of releasing a heavily edited, fabricated video."
The screen shifted to a video clip—a heavily edited, distorted sequence from our wedding night. It showed me pinning Adrian to the floor, but the audio had been stripped, replaced by a loud, aggressive screaming sound that made me look like an unhinged, violent attacker.
"She has taken our family hostage," Celeste wept into the cameras. "We have filed a twenty-million-dollar suit for malicious prosecution, extortion, and aggravated battery. We call upon the authorities to immediately issue a warrant for her arrest."
"They're playing dirty," Maya said, her face pale with rage as she slammed her hand on the table. "They’ve manipulated the footage, leaked it to the media, and used their public relations firm to turn the entire city against you. If the District Attorney gets pressured by their political donors, they will have to issue an arrest warrant."
"Let them play, Maya," I said, my voice completely calm, my eyes cold as ice. "Arrogant people always make their biggest mistakes when they believe they have successfully controlled the crowd. They think they’ve cornered me. But they’ve actually just built the stage for their own public execution."
I stood up, walking toward my suitcase. "Call your contacts at the local news networks, Maya. Tell them that Elena Cole is holding a live, unedited press conference in two hours at the community center in downtown. We are going to show them the real video. The whole video."

"And the financial records?" Maya asked, a sharp smile returning to her face.
"We’re going to show them the whip, the rulebook, and the Cayman Islands manifests," I said, buttoning my coat. "Celeste wanted a public spectacle. We are going to give her a masterclass in transparency."
