Chapter 18 - THE TRAPEmma created a fake file.
It contained information about a secret Minerva server.
The file was completely false.
But only four people had access to it.
Emma.
Martha.
Jonathan.
And one other person.
The person who had been secretly helping the Black Knight.
The file was uploaded to a secure server.
Then Emma waited.
Nothing happened for three days.
On the fourth day, someone accessed it.
Jonathan immediately traced the connection.
The signal came from inside the Foundation.
Everyone was shocked.
The suspect was the Foundation’s chief security officer.
His name was Michael Reed.
He had been working with the organization for more than ten years.
Michael was arrested.
But before the police could question him, he said something that made everyone freeze.
“You caught me because they wanted you to.”
Emma stared at him.
“Who?”
Michael smiled.
“The person who has been watching you since the day you were born.”
Martha stepped forward.
“What does that mean?”
Michael looked at Emma.
“Your father did not die because of Minerva.”
Emma’s face changed.
Michael continued:
“He died because he tried to protect you.”
The room went silent.
Emma looked at her mother.
Martha began to cry.
“Mom?”
Martha could not speak.
Michael leaned closer.
“The Black Knight does not want the Foundation.”
He whispered:
“They want you.”
Then the lights went out.
When they came back on, Michael was dead.
