Chapter 10 - The Light That Never FadesTwo years after the storm.

The sun was setting over the Mississippi countryside, painting the vast sky in breathtaking shades of liquid crimson, soft violet, and brilliant gold.
A quiet evening calm settled over the Pine Ridge property.
Aiden and Savannah were sleeping soundly in their sunlit upstairs bedroom—two strong, healthy two-year-old toddlers whose giggles filled our daily lives with infinite joy.
I stood on the wide wooden balcony of my farmhouse, holding a warm cup of chamomille tea. The cool autumn breeze blew gently through the pine trees, carrying the sweet fragrance of night-blooming jasmine and damp earth.
Down on the driveway, Michael was loading his tool bag into his car after spending the afternoon building a wooden safety fence around the garden pond.
He closed his trunk, looked up toward the balcony, and gave me a warm, respectful wave.
“Goodnight, Emily,” he called out softly. “I’ll be back on Friday for their swimming lesson.”
“Goodnight, Michael,” I called back, smiling warmly. “Drive safe.”
I watched his car headlights disappear down the quiet gravel road into the dusk.
They had tried to tell me that my life was over on that rainy night in the hospital. I had thought that betrayal and heartbreak would define the rest of my days.
But as I looked out over the glowing fields of my sanctuary, holding the warm tea in my hands, I knew the truth.
Betrayal didn't define me. The storm didn't break me.
Out of the darkest night of my life, God had given me two miraculous souls, an unbreakable purpose, and a peace so deep that no shadow could ever touch it again.

I took a deep, clean breath of the evening air, held my head high under the starry Mississippi sky, and stepped inside my warm, light-filled home, closing the door on the past forever.
