đŹ PART 2Ö "The Secret in the Little Purse" - Full Story
The lobby went silent.
The bride stared at the necklace inside the little girlâs purse.
The child started crying before anyone spoke.
âI didnât steal it,â she whispered.
The brideâs voice shook.
âThen why do you have it?â
The little girl looked at the old janitor.
âGrandpa saw me pick it up.â
The bride froze.
âGrandpa?â
Gasps moved through the wedding guests.
The janitor lowered his head, ashamed.
âShe found it on the floor after it fell from your table,â he said. âShe wanted to give it back, but the clasp was broken.â
The flower girl held the necklace out with both hands.
âI was scared youâd get mad.â
The bride looked at the child, then at the old man.
âYou let me accuse you?â
The janitorâs eyes filled with tears.
âSheâs only six. I didnât want everyone calling her a thief.â
The brideâs face changed. Her anger disappeared, replaced by something worse.
Shame.
The little girl cried harder.
âMom said not to tell anyone heâs my grandpa,â she whispered. âShe said poor family makes rich people uncomfortable.â
The bride slowly turned toward her mother standing near the staircase.
Her motherâs face went white.
The janitor picked up the old photo from the floor. His hands were shaking.
âI wasnât invited,â he said quietly. âI only took this cleaning shift so I could see my granddaughter carry flowers.â
The bride covered her mouth.
The entire lobby stood frozen.
Then she walked to the old man, took his trembling hands, and whispered, âYou should have been sitting in the front row.â
May you like
The little girl ran into his arms.
And for the first time that day, the wedding music stopped feeling like a celebration⊠and started feeling like an apology.
