đŹ PART 2Ö "The Secret Behind the Sunglasses" - Full Story
The fatherâs face went pale.
He looked down at his daughter. âSweetheart⊠what is he talking about?â
The little girl didnât answer.
Her grip on the cane tightened until her knuckles turned white.
The scruffy boy swallowed hard. âI sleep behind the old garage near your house. I see things.â
The father turned back to him slowly. âWhat things?â
The boyâs voice got smaller. âYour wife gets angry when you leave. She tells your daughter not to look at you. She says if she keeps pretending, youâll feel guilty and stay home forever.â
The father looked like the words were cutting him open.
âThatâs a lie,â he whispered.
The boy shook his head. âNo.â
Then he reached into his torn pocket and pulled out a small pair of childâs sunglasses, cracked at one corner.
âShe threw these away last night,â he said. âYour daughter was crying.â
The little girlâs breathing broke.
The father crouched in front of her, his voice shaking now. âCan you see me?â
For a long moment, she didnât move.
Then, slowly, she took off her sunglasses.
Her eyes were wet.
Focused.
Terrified.
âDaddy,â she whispered.
The father stopped breathing.
He touched her face with shaking hands. âYou can see?â
She nodded once, tears spilling down her cheeks. âI didnât want you to leave again.â
His whole face collapsed.
Behind them, a womanâs voice suddenly cut through the quiet street.
âWhat is going on?â
The father turned.
His wife stood on the sidewalk a few steps away, frozen, her smile already dying.
The scruffy boy looked at her and said softly, âI told him.â
May you like
And for the first time, the little girl stepped out from behind her father and pointed straight at the woman.
âShe made me lie.â
