đŹ PART 2: "The Photo She Was Never Supposed to See" - Full Story
The woman took the photo with both hands.
Her red lipstick trembled.
For a moment, she couldnât speak.
The girl stood there holding the tray of roses, suddenly scared she had done something wrong.
âWhere did you get this?â the woman whispered.
âMy mom kept it under her pillow.â
âWhatâs your motherâs name?â
The girl looked down.
âLena.â
The womanâs eyes filled instantly.
âNoâŠâ
The rose tray slipped lower in the girlâs hands.
âYou know her?â
The woman pressed the photo to her chest.
âSheâs my sister.â
The restaurant noise seemed to disappear.
âMy father told me she ran away with a man and never wanted to see me again.â
The little girl shook her head.
âShe didnât run away.â
The woman froze.
âShe cried every birthday. She said she had a sister who wore the other rose ring. She said one day Iâd find you.â
The womanâs tears fell onto the table.
âWhere is she now?â
The girlâs lips started trembling.
âSheâs sick.â
The woman stood so fast her chair hit the floor behind her.
âTake me to her.â
The girl blinked through tears.
âReally?â
The woman removed the gold rose ring from her finger and placed it gently in the girlâs palm.
âI spent fifteen years thinking my sister abandoned me.â
Her voice broke.
âBut she was sending me home through you.â
The girl finally cried.
âShe said if I found you⊠I should tell you she never stopped loving you.â
The woman covered her mouth, sobbing in the middle of the elegant restaurant while everyone stared.
Then she picked up every rose from the tray and held them close.
âCome on, sweetheart.â
