đŹ PART 2: "The Daughter She Never Stopped Hearing" - Full Story
The security guard let go of the girlâs arm.
Nobody spoke.
The music box kept playing that tiny lullaby, soft and broken under the noise of the gala.
The woman stared at the engraved name like it had pulled her back into a night she had buried for years.
âWhere is your mother?â she asked.
The girl looked down.
âI donât know. She cried when she left me. She said she had to protect me.â
The womanâs eyes filled with tears.
âWhatâs your name?â
The girl hesitated, scared of being punished for answering wrong.
âEmma.â
The womanâs breath broke.
Behind her, a man stepped out of the limousine.
Her husband.
His face changed the second he saw the music box.
The woman slowly turned toward him.
âYou told me she died.â
The manâs jaw tightened.
Guests began whispering.
The little girl held the music box against her chest.
The womanâs voice shook, but she didnât look away.
âYou stood beside a tiny coffin and let me bury nothing.â
The man whispered, âI was trying to save our name.â
The womanâs knees almost gave out.
Emma looked up at her, confused and trembling.
âAm I in trouble?â
The woman turned back to the little girl and collapsed to her knees in front of her.
âNo, baby,â she cried. âYou were stolen from me.â
Emmaâs lips trembled.
âYouâre my mom?â
The woman touched her face like she was afraid the child might disappear.
May you like
âI knew that lullaby would bring you back,â she whispered.
Then she pulled her daughter into her arms while the gala doors stood open behind them, full of people who had almost watched a miracle get dragged away.
