Chapter 8 - The Dummy Account

|

I sat in my study, the heavy curtains drawn, the room illuminated only by the harsh glow of two encrypted laptops. Rocco sat across from me, typing rapidly.

"The bait is set in the system, Boss," Rocco announced, turning one of the screens toward me.

We had created a dummy offshore account, intentionally mislabeling it as the primary holding fund for my family’s legitimate real estate assets. We seeded it with a tracking algorithm so sophisticated it could trace a digital fingerprint through ten layers of the dark web.

"She accessed my personal laptop last night while I was showering," I explained, staring at the flashing green code. "She downloaded a keystroke logger. She thinks she has my master passwords."

"If she initiates a transfer from this dummy account, it won't just alert us," Rocco said, a grim smile touching his scarred face. "It will act as a digital trojan horse. The moment the money lands in the Moretti family’s receiving account, the virus will deploy. It will completely wipe their entire syndicate’s financial records, lock their assets, and send their internal ledgers directly to the FBI."

I leaned back in my leather chair, taking a slow sip of bourbon. "She wants to destroy my family from the inside. I am going to let her press the button that burns her own empire to the ground."

"When do you think she'll make the move?" Rocco asked.

"The wedding is in three days," I noted coldly. "She needs the capital to fund the hitmen they plan to sneak into the reception. She will make the transfer tonight."

At exactly 3:14 AM, my private cell phone buzzed violently on the nightstand.

I was lying in the dark, staring at the ceiling. I hadn't slept in a week. I picked up the phone.

"She took the bait," Rocco’s voice crackled through the secure line. "The transfer was just initiated. Ten million dollars is currently bouncing through three proxy servers."

"Let it run," I commanded quietly, sitting up on the edge of the bed. "Trace the final destination. Let me know the exact moment the virus deploys."

"Understood, Boss. What about Vivien?"

I looked toward the closed bedroom door, knowing the traitor was sleeping soundly in the guest suite down the hall.

"Leave her," I whispered. "I want her to think she won."
