Chapter 19 - THE MAN WHO BROUGHT BACK THE PAST|

Daniel entered the estate carrying a weathered leather bag.

He looked to be in his early thirties, with dark hair, a narrow face, and a small crescent-shaped scar on his wrist. He wore ordinary clothes and carried himself like a man who had spent years avoiding attention.

Aleandro stared at him.

"I thought you were dead."

Daniel gave a tired smile.

"So did I, for a while."

Nico stood slowly from his chair.

For several seconds, the brothers studied each other without speaking. Then Nico reached for Daniel's hand.

"Do I know you?"

Daniel nodded.

"You used to hide your shoes in my crib because you thought I'd learn to walk faster if I had something to chase."

A faint recognition passed through Nico's face.

Then he laughed, a sound so unexpected that Sophia began to cry.

"You were real," Nico whispered.

Daniel hugged him.

"I was real. And I was looking for you."

He explained that his adoptive parents had raised him with love but had never been told the circumstances of his birth. At eighteen, he found a sealed letter among their belongings. It revealed that he had been transferred from a private clinic under an assumed identity.

He had spent years searching for the truth.

When he learned that Nico had survived the warehouse explosion, he began following the Lantern Fund payments. He discovered that Richard was using the trust to conceal stolen assets and hold vulnerable families under financial control.

"I tried to expose him," Daniel said. "But every time I got close, someone threatened the people who helped me."

Aleandro looked at the document.

"Why did you come now?"

"Because Emma's dance appeared on social media. I recognized the movements. My mother used to perform that sequence when I was a baby."

Nico turned toward Sophia.

"Our mother taught all her children the same dance."

Daniel nodded.

"But there's something else. The original trust isn't controlled by the Morettis. It's controlled by the children named in it. Once two beneficiaries are identified, the trustee must release the records to an independent court."

"And the third beneficiary?" Sophia asked.

Daniel's expression changed.

"There are three."

He opened his bag and removed a photograph.

It showed three children standing beside a woman in a hospital corridor. The oldest was Daniel. The smallest was a baby girl. The third child was partially hidden behind the nurse.

Nico stared at it.

"Who is that?"

Daniel pointed toward the baby.

"Emma's mother was the first child named in the fund. Emma inherited the claim after her birth. But the third child was never registered under the Moretti name."

Aleandro leaned forward.

"Who was the third child?"

Daniel removed a birth certificate.

The father's name was Richard Moretti.

The mother's name had been blacked out.

The certificate had been issued on the same date as the warehouse explosion.

Sophia looked at the photograph.

A strange certainty rose inside her.

The nurse in the background wore a silver crescent bracelet.

Celeste's bracelet.

Before anyone could speak, the estate lights flickered.

A loud crash sounded outside.

Marcus entered with a weapon drawn.

"Everyone move away from the windows."

Aleandro pulled Sophia and Emma behind the desk while Nico helped Daniel toward the reinforced hallway.

A message appeared on Daniel's phone.

You found the truth. Now bring the third child to the old chapel.

Beneath it was a photograph of Celeste Romano.

May you like

She was tied to a chair.

And someone stood behind her wearing Richard Moretti's signet ring.
