Chapter 6 - Tearing Down the EmpireThe news of the arrest of Derek Vance, Beatrice Vance, and Chloe Montgomery sent shockwaves through the wealthy Chicago business community.

Headlines dominated television feeds and newspaper headers: “Suburban Horror: Tech Executive and Mother Arrested for Torturing Pregnant Wife in $12M Trust Conspiracy.”
The video recorded by Mrs. Gable was leaked to national media outlets forty-eight hours later. Public outrage was swift, terrifying, and absolute.
Derek’s corporate partners immediately terminated his executive contract, seized his company stock options to cover corporate damages, and issued a public statement condemning his actions. Beatrice’s social club revoked her membership, and her credit accounts were frozen by federal auditors investigating the paper trail of Chloe Montgomery’s father.
Two months after the deposition, while staying at a secure private estate in Evanston provided by Victoria Sterling, I went into early labor.
Dr. Lawson and a team of top obstetricians worked for six hours at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
At 4:15 AM on a snowy November morning, the quiet operating room was broken by the sharp, healthy, ringing cry of a newborn child.
“It’s a girl, Hannah,” Dr. Lawson announced, her eyes crinkling with emotional joy as she placed the tiny, warm bundle against my chest. “A healthy, perfect baby girl.”
I wept tears of pure, unadulterated happiness, holding my daughter close to my skin—skin that bore faint, faded scars, but skin that was now protecting a brand-new life.
I named her Hope.
Hope Vance Sterling. A child who had survived the dark garage, the fire, and the greed, emerging into the world as a beacon of light.
Three days later, while holding Hope in my arms in the hospital suite, Detective Sterling walked into the room carrying an official legal document.
“The grand jury just returned the formal indictments,” Sterling reported, a proud smile on his face. “Thirty-two felony counts against Derek, Beatrice, and Chloe. The District Attorney is seeking maximum life sentences without parole for all three.”

I looked down at Hope’s tiny, sleeping face, feeling a profound, deep sense of peace settle into my soul.
The nightmare was over. The reclamation had begun.
