Chapter 11 - The Confrontation in the Study

For a terrifying second, the air in the study felt sucked out entirely. Eleanor stared from the glowing screen to Clara, her face twisting into a mask of pure, unadulterated hatred.
"You little parasite," Eleanor hissed, stepping into the room and locking the door behind her with a heavy iron latch. "I should have let that poison finish you off last night."
Clara stood up slowly from the desk, unplugging the thumb drive and slipping it safely into her inner jacket pocket. She didn't cower; instead, her posture straightened, and a cold, fearless smile touched her lips.
"You underestimated the wrong person, Eleanor," Clara replied, her voice ringing out with absolute authority. "You thought you could intimidate me, poison me, and use me as a pawn. But your reign of terror ends tonight."

Eleanor lunged forward with surprising speed, grabbing a heavy brass paperweight from the desk and swinging it toward Clara’s head. Clara ducked swiftly, letting the heavy object shatter against the wall behind her. Before Eleanor could recover her balance, Clara stepped inside her guard, pinning the older woman’s wrists against the desk with iron strength.
"The files are already syncing to federal regulators, Eleanor," Clara whispered fiercely into her ear. "The game is over."
